Suzanne Elayne Mason
November 4, 1962 - August 8, 2021
With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Suzanne Elayne Mason, known to friends and family as Sue. Sue passed away peacefully in her home of more than eighteen years, with her husband, children, and granddaughter by her side. Sue was the second child of Paul and Maxine Woods, their first daughter, born on November 4, 1962, in Joplin Missouri. Sue was a joyful and precocious little girl, teaching herself how to walk at 8 months old, a model student that loved sewing and horticulture from a young age, and a Grand Champion in 4H. When Sue was 9 years old, her family would move to Arizona, right next to a boy, James Mason, who would later become her husband. Sue and James started out as neighbors, and became childhood friends, high school sweethearts, parents to four daughters, and a completely devoted couple for more than 43 years at the time of her passing. Sue dedicated her life to her family and the service of others. She worked as a nursing assistant and caregiver, tending to the needs of literally hundreds of infirmed people over the course of her professional career. Sue loved helping people, compassionate and selfless by nature. She was a gentle and loving mother, but she treated others like family too. Sue was “mom” to her children’s friends and the person others could turn to in times of need, for a place to stay, a meal, or for someone to just listen without judgment. Sue and James ran their own landscaping business, and her green thumb and creativity proved very successful. Her landscape designs still flourish in homes and businesses throughout the Phoenix valley. Sue was artistic, and enjoyed crafting, sewing, and created beauty in everything she touched including her home, which she loved. Those that knew Sue are better for knowing her. She made our world kinder, softer, and safe. Sue will never be forgotten as she has touched the hearts of so many. Suzanne Elayne Mason is survived by her husband James Mason, her children Lynnette Davis, Michelle Mason, Jamie Mason, and Bobbie Mason, her grandchildren Caylah Skidgel, Sasha Mason, Colton Davis, and Conner Davis, her mother Maxine Ekstom, sisters Lesa Collins, and Joyce Gardenhire, and brother Thomas Woods.
