Paul Leslie Crandall Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Paul Leslie Crandall Jr. passed away peacefully, at the age of 93 on the evening of June 27, 2021. He was born June 05, 1928 in Mesa, AZ to his parents, Paul Leslie Crandall & Barbara Allen as their second child. His siblings include Barbara (Vic), Will (RuthAnn), Don, Chuck, and was survived by John (Marilyn). Paul was married to Eleanor Gay Pew (deceased). Paul and Gay raised two daughters Leslie Crandall & Karen Shiflet (Steve deceased). Paul was a grandfather to two grandsons and a great grandfather to three great grandchildren. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Paul served a two year mission in the Hawaiian Islands. During his mission he played the saxophone in his mission band. After serving his full time mission, he was engaged and married the love of his life, Eleanor Gay Pew in November of 1951. He continued his education and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona Teachers College (ASU) in history & journalism. His professional career took him many places. He worked as a hotshot firefighter and after graduating from college, he worked at several companies and organizations where he was an editor of their magazines. He was the assistant director of the Arizona State Parks. This particular job with the state parks allowed his wife and children to travel throughout Arizona with him while he worked on specialty projects. During this time Paul and Eleanor raised two daughters. He served as the first Bishop in the singles ward of the Mesa Central Stake and held many other callings at a stake and bishopric level. His love for music was known by all who surrounded him. He enjoyed attending the Phoenix Symphony concerts. Collecting and displaying Department 56 Village pieces was one of his favorite pastimes, so much that he became president of the Department 56 Villagers. His villages were one of his most recognized forms of showing his creative talents. He also served as President of the Mesa Exchange Club. He loved spending time with his grandsons, where he was often taken out of his comfort zone and participated in their hobbies including camping & deep sea fishing. In his final days he enjoyed daily visits from his great grandchildren who truly brought a smile to his face and life to his day. He will be missed deeply by all those he associated and served with. At his time of passing his family had the comfort of knowing that he was not in pain and is envious of the grand reunion that was had on the other side of the veil with friends and family that have gone before him.
