Dean Clarkson

June 12, 1934 - February 11, 2022

Dean Clarkson died at home of heart failure on February 11, 2022 at the age of 87. Dean was born on June 12, 1934 in Taos, New Mexico to Joseph Edward Clarkson and Norma Shupe, the fourth of eight children. The family moved to Mesa, Arizona where he graduated from Mesa High School in 1953. Dean attended Brigham Young University and Arizona State University to pursue a major in teaching Industrial Arts. Dean married Karen Davis in 1961 and they welcomed 5 children into their family: Joseph, Connie, Craig, and twins Rachelle and Ryan. Like his father and younger brother, Dean owned his own construction business. He referred to himself as a developer for most of his life. Dean Clarkson is survived by his wife Carolyn Clarkson; his children, Joseph Clarkson, Connie (Johnny) Grutzmacher, Craig Clarkson, Rachelle (Rob) Schuster and Ryan (Anna) Clarkson; siblings, Dale (Pat) Clarkson of Kanab, Utah, Lynette ( Phil) Foster of Kanab, Utah, and Steve (Liana) Clarkson of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Samuel Cole Grutzmacher, and four sisters: June (Alwyn) Geiser, Christine (Walter) Kelly, Alice (Dave) Turley, and Joyce (Nelson) Allen. The funeral service for Dean is scheduled for 11:00am, Friday February 25, 2022 at 422 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ. It will be immediately followed by burial at Mesa City Cemetery, 1212 N.
